Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies (local storage, session storage) are used by browsers to store information locally. This policy covers all such technologies, which we refer to collectively as “cookies”.

UK rules on cookies are set out in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent; non-essential cookies do. We do not currently set any non-essential cookies.

These cookies are set by us and are strictly necessary to provide the service you have requested. Without them, sign-in and basic security cannot function.

We also store up to three keys in your browser's local storage. cookie_notice remembers that you have seen the statistics notice. statistics and umami.disabled are only set if you turn visitor statistics off, and remember that choice. None of these is a cookie in the HTTP sense, and none contains personal data.

We use Cloudflare to protect our site against denial-of-service attacks and malicious bots. Cloudflare may set the following strictly-necessary cookies on your device. These are required for the security of the site and PECR does not require consent for them.

We count visits to this site with Umami, an open source statistics tool that we run on our own server. It sets no cookies and stores no IP address. Each visitor is given an anonymous code that changes every day, so we cannot follow you from one day to the next or work out who you are.

We use these statistics for one purpose only, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We look at totals, such as pages viewed, the site or campaign link that brought you here, your approximate location (country, region and city), and your device, browser, screen size and language. We also count how far down a blog post you scroll, how long it stays open, and which of our buttons and links to other sites you click. The data stays on our server. It is never shared, sold or used for advertising.

UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) allows statistics like this without asking first, as long as we explain them and let you turn them off. You can turn them off below at any time, and they stay off in this browser.

We do not use any advertising or social media cookies. No data is shared with advertising networks or social media platforms.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to: see what cookies are stored, delete some or all of them, block cookies from particular sites, or block all cookies.

Disabling our strictly-necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in or using the site at all. Disabling Cloudflare's security cookies may prevent the site from loading.
